“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams.

Leadership is a positive state of mind translated into dynamic action which takes the individual and society as a whole, to greater heights. This constructive frame of mind is clearly visible in the way WIRC of ICAI has regularly brainstormed, initiated and implemented events which consistently raised the bar for finance professionals across the board.

Foundation Day

We were honoured to have Smt. Geeta Jain, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Govt. of Maharashtra, participate in our Foundation Day functions. She was pleased to perform the Flag Hoisting Ceremony in the presence of WIRC Office Bearers, Regional Council Members, past Chairpersons and members at ICAI Tower, BKC, Mumbai. She also took part in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleanliness drive and in the tree plantation program. Her presence on our Foundation Day is testimony to the importance of the profession in society.

Our 16th ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ program, which was a mix of physical and virtual, was a tremendous success. Members performing at the ICAI Tower auditorium were enthusiastically joined virtually by members & students from across the Region. I am pleased to state that the program was viewed by around 5,000 people on YouTube.

I also take this opportunity to thank our esteemed ICAI President, CA. Nihar N. Jambusaria for taking his valuable time and sharing an inspiring message with us on this momentous day.

WIRC & Sonu Sood Connect for TEL

On our 73rd Foundation Day, we had the pleasure to announce that actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood’s ‘Sood Charity Foundation’ has joined hands with WIRC of ICAI to launch a one of its kind initiative called ‘Saksham’.

This initiative aims to empower aspiring students by providing support with training under the TEL – Train, Earl, Learn initiative where WIRC will train the undergraduate students and then place them as interns with CA Firms.

Vaccination Drive

In the current situation, Covid-19 vaccination is a lifeline for health and peace of mind. WIRC organised a ‘Vaccination Drive’ at Holy Spirit Hospital (Andheri East) where 1,000 CA Members, Students, their family members and staff were given the opportunity to get vaccinated in a safe and sanitised environment by qualified medical personnel.

International Opportunities

Today, the Indian CA qualification is well recognized in many countries and we find that many Indian CAs are able to take up attractive global careers. At the same time, to provide the correct roadmap in this regard for our members, WIRC organised a ‘Meeting on Tax & Accounting Outsourcing Services to USA - Opportunities and Challenges’. This meeting was well received by all attendees for the correct guidance disseminated by the knowledgeable speakers.

NEST: Networking– Entrepreneurship –Soft Skills – Technology

‘You cannot mandate productivity, you must provide the tools to let people become their best.’ - Steve Jobs.

Knowing that young members are the future of the profession, WIRC has created and conducted multiple knowledge modules to enable them to realize their potential. We strongly believe that growth in two areas in particular are vital for success with these areas being ‘Soft skills’ and ‘Networking’.

To encourage the development and focus on these areas, WIRC is launching “NEST”!

NEST aims to create a virtual group where members can be coached effectively, participate and test themselves on public speaking abilities, get an exposure to various other peer views and network efficiently to improve towards synergies. We are confident that this initiative will go far in creating a strong cadre of self-assured, eloquent and articulate members.

We are launching NEST on 30th July. Visit wirc-icai.org for further details.

Travel in Local Trains for CA Students

The safety parameters put in place by the State Government in the fight against covid-19 have brought about positive results. At the same time, in a city like Mumbai suburban trains are an essential mode of transport. In order to enable our students to travel to their exam centres, without worrying about travel, WIRC appealed to the Chief Minister’s Office and requested to permit our students in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) comprising Mumbai City; Mumbai Suburban; Thane; Palghar  and Raigad areas to travel by trains to give exams on the basis of their admit cards.

I am pleased to state that the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Uddhav Thackeray and Shri Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray, Minister of Tourism and Environment, Govt. of Maharashtra graciously gave official permission to allow our students to travel by train to their exam centres. WIRC and WICASA thank them and appreciate this gesture on behalf of all the thousands of students across the M.M.R.

Student Activities

We also conducted the ‘Battle with your Brain-Virtual Chess Competition for CA Students’ competition. Conducted across the Region, this event helps to inculcate powerful skills which stand in good stead in their professional lives and WIRC is truly pleased to strengthen these foundational qualities.

At WIRC, we look forward to continue educating members and students via virtual & physical seminars, conferences, lecture meetings refresher courses and workshops.

I request you to share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions to chairmanwirc@icai.in.

Since ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’, please take care, stay safe and remain healthy.

Best Regards

CA. Manish Gadia,
Chairman
